Privacy Fencing, Pool Barriers, and Property Lines -- Done Right the First Time
Wood fences from $25/ft. Vinyl from $35/ft. Aluminum from $35/ft. We handle permits, HOA approvals, and pool code compliance. Posts set 24 inches deep in concrete for Florida wind resistance. Most jobs done in 2-4 days.
Wood vs Vinyl vs Aluminum -- For Florida
Pressure-treated wood ($25-$50/ft) gives you the classic privacy fence look at the lowest cost. We use pressure-treated pine rated for ground contact in Florida's humidity. Expect 10-15 years with periodic sealing. Cedar looks great initially but dries, cracks, and grays faster in Florida's intense UV than it does up north.
Vinyl/PVC ($35-$65/ft) is the zero-maintenance choice. Never rots. Never warps. Never needs painting or sealing. Handles Florida humidity, UV, and salt air without degradation. 20-30 year lifespan. Higher upfront cost but zero ongoing expense. Available in privacy, semi-privacy, and decorative styles.
Aluminum ($35-$60/ft) is the pick for pool code compliance, decorative property lines, and hurricane resistance. Wind passes through the pickets rather than catching on a solid surface. Will not rust in salt air near the Gulf. Popular in Treasure Island and coastal Gulfport where salt corrosion destroys cheaper metals.
Chain link ($15-$25/ft) is the budget option for large perimeters, dog containment, and areas where appearance is secondary to function. Can be upgraded with privacy slats or vinyl coating for a cleaner look.
Permits, HOAs, Pool Code, and Hurricane Prep
Permits: St. Petersburg requires building permits for fences over 3 feet tall. We handle the application, site plan, and all required documentation. Typical permit turnaround: 5-10 business days.
HOA compliance: Many Pinellas County communities restrict fence height (usually 6 ft max), material (vinyl or aluminum only in some areas), color (white or tan typically), and placement. We review your HOA bylaws and get architectural approval before ordering materials.
Pool code: Florida law requires pool barriers at least 48 inches tall with no openings over 4 inches, self-closing/self-latching gates opening outward, and no climbable features on the pool side. We install code-compliant pool fencing that passes inspection every time.
Wind resistance: All our posts are set minimum 24 inches deep in concrete footings. Privacy fences in open areas get 30-inch post depth. This exceeds Florida building code minimum and provides resistance to tropical storm-force winds. We have not had a single fence fail in wind conditions since we started using this standard.

Request a Free EstimateA Crumbling Wood Fence Replaced With Vinyl in Largo
A homeowner in Largo had a 12-year-old pressure-treated wood fence that was leaning, rotting at the base, and had lost several boards in a summer storm. They had tried patching individual boards twice but the posts themselves were deteriorating below ground level where water collects.
They wanted something that would never rot again. We proposed a 6-foot tall white vinyl privacy fence -- 180 linear feet around the backyard including a double gate for equipment access. Removed the old wood fence and hauled it off. Set new posts 26 inches deep in concrete. Installed vinyl panels and caps.
Total project: $9,900. Timeline: 3 days after permit approval. That fence will look identical in 20 years with zero maintenance -- no sealing, no painting, no board replacement. The homeowner calculated they had spent roughly $2,000 on maintenance and repairs on the wood fence over its 12-year life. The vinyl fence eliminates all of that permanently.
Fence Installation Questions
Wood: $25-$50/ft. Vinyl: $35-$65/ft. Aluminum: $35-$60/ft. A typical 150 linear foot backyard fence costs $3,750-$7,500 for wood or $5,250-$9,750 for vinyl. Includes posts, panels, hardware, gates, and installation.
Yes for fences over 3 feet tall. We handle the permit application and ensure code compliance. Typical approval takes 5-10 business days.
Aluminum handles high winds best because wind passes through pickets. For privacy fences, vinyl flexes without breaking better than wood. All our posts are set 24+ inches deep in concrete for wind resistance.
Vinyl and aluminum: 20-30+ years with zero maintenance. Wood: 10-15 years with regular sealing. Florida's humidity, UV, and insects shorten wood lifespan compared to northern states.
